Auckland's westernmost volcanic cone — a Tūpuna Maunga (ancestral mountain) of deep significance to mana whenua, co-governed by the Tūpuna Maunga Authority. A short but steep 20-minute loop walk leads to the summit (135m) with stunning 360° views of Auckland's skyline, both harbours, and neighbouring maunga. A former Māori pā site with rich history. For Route 66 northbound (Point Chevalier) walk 2 minutes up Carrington Road. For Route 66 eastbound (Mt Roskill, Sylvia Park) cross New North Road and catch the bus on Mt Albert Road. For Route 22 further west along New North Road (Pak'n'Save, Hendon Avenue), cross diagonally to the stops at 888 New North Road.

The Route 66 runs cross-suburb from Pt Chevalier through Mt Albert to Sylvia Park — useful for reaching the Sylvia Park shopping centre and train station without going into the city. The Outer Link (updated November 2024) connects Mt Albert to Newmarket via the inner western bays — Pt Chevalier, Westmere and Herne Bay — and continues through Parnell.
