Parnell station was built specifically to serve the heritage Parnell precinct and the Auckland Domain — and that remains its best use. The station is at the base of the valley on Cheshire Street, with the Domain and War Memorial Museum just a short walk away. A steep path leads up to Parnell Village, one of Auckland's oldest and most charming streets, lined with excellent cafes, a brewpub, cocktail bars and restaurants. The Inner Link bus runs through the village and connects directly to the city.
🚆 City Rail Link note: When the CRL opens in late 2026, Western Line trains will no longer stop at Parnell. The station will be served only by the South-City Line, running every 15 minutes. For Parnell visits from the Western Line, use the Inner Link bus from the city — or catch the train and transfer.
Domain & Museum
Two of Auckland's finest attractions are a short walk away — but note that access from the station involves a steep and winding gravel path, not suitable for wheelchairs, prams or those with mobility issues. The alternative is to take a bus or taxi to the Domain's main entrance on Park Road.
Auckland Domain

Features the famous Lover's Walk through ancient native trees, Glade Path, Centennial Walk, Wintergarden glasshouses (free entry), a duck pond, expansive sports fields and the War Memorial Museum at its crown. Host to major outdoor events and concerts. Open 24 hours, free entry.
Open 24 hours · Free entry · Wintergarden: daily 10am–4pm⚠️ Access from station via steep gravel path — not wheelchair or pram accessible
Auckland War Memorial Museum
New Zealand's most visited museum — a stunning neoclassical building crowning the Auckland Domain with sweeping views over the city and Waitematā Harbour. Galleries span Māori and Pacific taonga (including an extraordinary waka taua), New Zealand's natural history, volcanoes and earthquakes, and the war memorial galleries. The live kapa haka / haka performance is a highlight. Free entry for NZ residents; entry fees apply for international visitors.
